Honor the River God
May your Holy Day of Zhaké be glorious and grand! May He forever protect and guide us, for He is the wisest and strongest god of all.
Royal decrees; interesting things I find; photographs I've taken; random thoughts on politics and culture as I know 'em; holidays both real and imaginary; and a fantasy novel page-by-page. "I hate hippies." -- Alicia Spanhake, Honorary Baroness of Síporozorígí |

I'm at a roofing seminar, learning how to apply several different roofing systems. I'm not actually in Toronto, but the suburb of Brampton. Since I don't have a rental car, I don't think I'll be getting in to town. I'll just hang out here in the hotel in the light-industrial district, across from the Walmart.
So at least I'm across from the Walmart and can thus purchase food cheaply. I ate at the hotel restaurant for dinner today and it cost almost as much as three lunches and the two previous dinners combined. I should go over there again tomorrow evening to get my dinner foodstuffs.
The oddest thing about Toronto are the squirrels. They're black. It freaks me out. When I saw one out of the corner of my eye, I thought it was a bat or a crow flying very low.
Today and tomorrow, the highs are in the teens, but Friday, the high is supposed to be zero. Egads.

The blossoms drift from the trees on Hérazha's breeze, for today is Her Holy Day.
Hérazha rides Her horses across the sky and through time itself, but She always will be around for Her day, today, so we can all bask in Her beauty and heed Her call to fight the demons of darkness.
Fight for light! Ride the wind! Glory be to Hérazha!
Our cell phones don't work!
Did the high winds this afternoon knock over a tree and wipe out the local tower? But no, Chunlin called me when I was home at 5:30, and my phone worked fine then.
Did something happen at the local Verizon Wireless building? Possible, but those guys are so paranoid I find it hard to believe their network would go down in the early evening, even if they lost utility power for days. I also find it hard to believe that it's wind-related at their building, since the wind stopped several hours ago.
Maybe power got cut to the tower by the wind, and now the backup power supply (batteries? generator?) has run out of juice?
I would have figured that we were reached by at least two towers, though, from our location.
Mystery. . .
UPDATE: Now that I look at our phones more clearly, we have tower coverage, but we still can't call out. "Called failed please !!! Try again." And Mom couldn't reach my phone, either. Perhaps Verizon Wireless is limited use in the area to emergency calls only??
Mystery. . .

I thought I got enough sleep this weekend to counter the start of "Daylight Savings," but alas I'm very tired today.
Perhaps my protracted case of a runny nose has something to do with it, or my food poisoning strike on Saturday, but I prefer to blame the government.
I certainly didn't get sick because I hadn't been excercising as often as I should, lately. Nah.

I glance at my calendar, and what do I see upon the 14th?
"Daylight Savings Begins"!!!
Why, oh Imperial Overlords, why?? Why must you torture us like so?

With the Pinehurst house finally rented, I can now focus on other things, like income taxes!
Or maybe that can wait a little while, too. . .
