Insectoid Vermin Update
Fruit flies have invaded our house. They've never lived here before and they're not welcome.
Too bad they're so hard to kill!

More than likely, fruit flies and their eggs came into your house on some fruit.
Try this: Slice part of an apple or some other fruit. Put it in a plastic grocery bag (one with no holes.) Make it like a bucket with the sides up 4 inches or so.
Lay in on the kitchen counter overnight and in the morning close the bag and throw it away. Do this often until there is no problem.
One summer I had fruit flies (also called compost gnats) finding homes in my indoor flower pots. I killed those with insecticide!
