Day 9 - Kaiteriteri
We spent last night at Hanmer Springs, with a nice soak in the pools. We stayed away from the chlorine pools and stuck to the sulfur. Yum yum.
A drive through the mountains to the west coast led us to the Pancake Rocks:
Lots of people around, but that was okay, because they were dwarfed by the rocks and crashing waves.
Then up the coast and inland through the Buller Gorge, which was tame in comparison to the valleys down in Fiordland. But it did have a nice pedestrian suspension bridge across the river. And on the way back, we took a zipline. Here's a photo of someone going down as we were on the bridge:
We rode at the same time, on the two different harnesses. It was quite a pleasant river crossing. The end of the ride was a bit more harrowing than the first 150 meters.
And then we drove to the north end of the South Island to the small town of Kaiteriteri, just a short boat ride from Abel Tasman National Park. Here's the local beach:

The beaches are so empty! What beautiful scenery.
FYI, Indy won the Superbowl. 7 turnovers kept the game close and interesting until the middle of the 4th quarter, when Grossman threw a couple of interceptions.
