Feb 9 afternoon

Brief stop in Kawakawa looking for the famous toilets. Poorly signed. Drove back and forth through town. Finally saw what must've been them just as I gave up. Didn't stop. On to Opua we go.

Ferry drives up to the boat ramp and lowers its ramp and on we drive. Very tight.

And quickly back on the road. Five minutes to Russell, a sleepy vacation town. Where to park? That says 30 minutes. Owner of our hotel said they don't police that, though, except Christmas/New Years. Okay, then. Lovely turquoise bay here. Much better than the brown water at Opua. Is it dinnertime yet?

Long drive up here to Bay of Islands. Even without our stops, it's still an hour longer than expected. I don't feel like driving very much tomorrow. Certainly not ten hours up to Cape Reinga and back. So an abbreviated loop tomorrow is planned.
